Why is the sims 4 install so huge mods#
The bugs are so bad that there's an entire suite of mods (NRAAS' stuff) that are widely considered required for playing The Sims 3. Routing issues were infamously bad - the game would freeze ( completely freeze) because some NPC sim on the other side of town got stuck on his way to the bathroom. It's broke as hell." I can't think of any Sims 4 expansions that are broken to that degree. Remember how Island Paradise was literally broken? People who played it warned the rest of us, "Do not under any circumstance try to play a game in that neighborhood. I remember buying the Pets expansion and having to almost immediately uninstall it because the stray pets had routing issues that caused the game to freeze. All Sims games are buggy - that's a fact of life. Oh, and that computer I mentioned that I bought in 2015? It was able to load up The Sims 4 in like 10 seconds. Honestly, it's unacceptable for a video game to even take 5 minutes to load up - 20-30 minutes is an abomination. That same computer still took close to 20 minutes to load Sims 3.

To drive this point home, in 2015 I bought a new mid-high end gaming PC that was able to play Doom 2016 on max settings with a smooth framerate - and Doom 2016 loaded really fast on this PC. And my computer specs didn't seem to matter - I played Sims 3 on several different gaming computers over the years, and all of them blew the recommended system requirements out of the water. I used to start loading it, then go take a shower, shave, have breakfast, and by the time I finished all that it would be halfway done loading. From desktop to actually playing, 30 minutes.

It got to the point where it took literally (not figuratively!) 30 minutes to load my save game. I don't remember it being bad back when I just had the base game and a couple expansions, but over time it got worse and worse. In my experience, the Sims 3 had atrociously long load times.

Instead of focusing on this point, feel free to skip straight to reading reason number 2.

If you are one of the lucky folks for whom Sims 3 has always loaded fast, good for you. without further ado, here's as complete a list as I can come up with right now of why I like Sims 4 better than Sims 3:

I wouldn't expect you to let The Sims 4 off the hook for not having an open world just because there's an open world mod available for it, so don't expect me to let the Sims 3 off the hook for its technical issues just because some of its technical issues are addressed by mods. But the other games angered me more, and Sims 3 was the most frustrating for me.Īnd finally, a third disclaimer: out of fairness, I compare the games based on the unmodded experience. That includes the Sims 4 - I go through phases where The Sims 4 pisses me right off ( exhibit A). This is because every Sims game has frustrated and annoyed me for various (usually technical) reasons. Second, another disclaimer: Instead of saying Sims 4 is the best Sims game, I often prefer to say it's the Sims game that pissed me off the least. So that's the purpose of this post - to get all (hopefully) of my thoughts out there.

So I have zero ill will toward anyone who prefers those games - you are my brothers and sisters 😛 However, I often find myself having to explain why the Sims 4 is my favorite Sims game, and I usually end up responding with a couple reasons, but I've never compiled the full list. I loved the hell out of both those games. First, a disclaimer: I played Sims 3 for years.
